The password stored in Credential Manager is invalid.

2013-04-24 / Desktop, Random / 0 Comments

Problem:

When a user was printing documents it would show up under a help desk person’s account.

Also was seeing a bunch of EventID 552 like these in the security logs

Logon attempt using explicit credentials:
Logged on user:
User Name: USER1
Domain: DOMAIN
Logon ID: (xxx,0x7D052)
Logon GUID: {xxxxxxx-07b5-8f5f-d5dd-d78268681b37}
User whose credentials were used:
User Name: HELPDESKUSER
Domain: DOMAIN.LOCAL

Logon GUID: –
For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Solution:

After enabling NetLogon debug logging information. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/109626

This would appear in the System Log under Kerberos Warning:

The password stored in Credential Manager is invalid. This might be caused by the user changing the password from this computer or a different computer. To resolve this error, open Credential Manager in Control Panel, and reenter the password for the credential XXX.

I was able to launch the Credential Manager using “rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr” and delete the cached credentials for the server that was running under the help desk person’s account.

Rebooted the PC and the user’s print jobs now show up under the correct account.

SCCM Use HTA To Set Task Sequence Variables

2011-06-21 / Configuration Manager, Desktop / 5 Comments

Problem:

I configured a task sequence to begin deployment of Windows 7 via USB thumb drives which are given to the techs. I wanted them to be able to install optional software at the time of deployment.

Solution:

UPDATED HTA FILE TO LATEST VERSION

Using Groups within the Task Sequences assigned variables gave me the best method of doing so. I created a front end HTA to allow the techs 1. set the PC name 2. add any additional software that the user might have had on their XP or replaced PC.

1.Mount current boot.wim file and then add HTA packages (if you dont already have HTA support)

Dism /image:c:\mountedwim /Add-Package /PackagePath:”C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\%Architecture%\WinPE_FPs\winpe-hta.cab”
Dism /image:c:\mountedwim /Add-Package /PackagePath:”C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\%Architecture%\WinPE_FPs\en-us\winpe-hta_en-us.cab”

2. Refresh/update boot image in SCCM

3. Configure Task Sequences to launch HTA

4. Configure groups with Task Sequence Variables

5. Configure HTA file
SCCMDeployments.hta.txt
(right click and save-as a text file and then rename to .hta once downloaded)
modify it to match your task sequence variables and the correct value it should be.
Keep in mind this will throw an error when not in the WinPE environment.

6. Deploy Image to USB Drive
No need to set variables on the Task sequence itself. When the image boots up and begins task sequence the HTA will run and prompt for check boxes and computer name value.

Atheros AR5007 with WPA WPA2 Issues

2011-06-17 / Desktop / 7 Comments

Problem:

After much troubleshooting it appears that Atheros AR5007 would not connect to any network with WPA/WPA2 encryption.

Solution:

I had to download an Atheros driver that was not listed on the Laptop Manufactures website. I found the driver at

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-82549-1&cc=mx&lc=es&dlc=es

This driver is listed at 7.7.0.396 and works with Vista 64 Bit. I have not tried it on other versions because I have no need to try.

CopyProfile does not process and causes Windows could not parse or process the Unattend answer file for the pass [Specialize]

2010-03-31 / Desktop, Windows 7 / 38 Comments

The following error appears if CopyProfile setting is set to true configured in the unattend.xml file.

Windows could not parse or process the Unattend answer file for the pass [Specialize]. The settings in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]

Solutions was to delete any users from the following location in the registry that do not exist anymore
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

After doing that you should be able to sysprep the gold image correctly.

Windows 7 Sysprep could not initialize. There are one or more Windows updates that require a reboot.

2010-03-31 / Desktop, Windows 7 / 21 Comments

The following error continued to appear when trying to run sysprep

I rebooted several times and the error would not go away. I resolved the issue by using “Program And Features” to install solitaire,  rebooting, and then removing solitaire using “program and feature” option.

After following those steps I was able to get around the issue, I think it was due to something getting hung up along the way and adding a new program reset the correct flags.
